What it does

Turn a document photo into structured, usable data

The ID Document Recognition SDK reads an identity document, classifies its type, and extracts its data fields — without sending the document image to a third-party service.

OCR & Data Extraction

Reads printed and machine-readable fields from the document face into structured data your application can use.

Document Classification

Identifies document type (passport, driver's license, ID card, and other supported formats) automatically.

Barcode Recognition

Reads PDF417 and other barcode formats commonly used on driver's licenses and ID cards.

MRZ recognition

Machine-readable zone parsing for passports and travel documents

The SDK reads and validates the machine-readable zone (MRZ) found on passports and many ID cards, extracting fields such as document number, nationality, and expiry using the document's own check-digit structure.

Passport & driver's license OCR

Field-level extraction, not just a raw text dump

Rather than returning unstructured OCR text, the SDK maps extracted data to named fields (name, date of birth, document number, and others depending on document type) so your application doesn't have to parse it itself.

On-device vs. server-side

Document recognition can run on-device for immediate capture feedback, or server-side for centralized processing at higher volume. Both remain inside infrastructure you control — see on-premise deployment.

Use cases

Where teams use the ID Document Recognition SDK

Onboarding

Pre-fill account forms from a scanned ID instead of manual entry.

KYC workflows

Extract and structure document data as the first step of an identity check.

Age & eligibility checks

Read date of birth and document validity fields to support age or eligibility logic your application defines.

Pairs with

Combine with Document Liveness for authenticity checks

Document recognition extracts the data; the Document Liveness Detection SDK checks whether the document itself was photographed live, scanned, or replayed on a screen.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Yes. The SDK reads and validates the machine-readable zone found on passports and many ID cards, extracting structured fields.
Passports, driver's licenses, and identity cards are the primary supported categories, covering 16,900 document templates across 255 countries and territories. If a specific document format for your market isn't yet confirmed, talk to sales.
Where deployed on-device or within an offline-capable environment, yes. See the On-Premise Identity Verification page for deployment details.
It automates data extraction and classification; whether manual review remains part of your workflow is a decision your own risk policy makes.
